Biographical Note

John A. O'Brien, a native New Orleanian, was born September 18, 1895.  After graduating from Tulane University in 1917, he joined the Army as an officer and served in the Engineer Crops with the Rainbow Division to New Orleans and engaged in civil engineering and general contracting.  He married Nell Pomeroy in 1922, and they had one daughter, Patricia.  He died in New Orleans on March 4, 1943.

Nell Pomeroy O'Brien was born in New Orleans on August 11, 1898 (probably 1897).  Educated in New Orleans schools, she received additional training in art at the Art Students League in New York and in France.  She was a well-known portrait painter and served as vice-president and director of the Art Association of New Orleans.  She was the founder and first volunteer instructor of the Junior Members of the Art Association at Delgado Museum and also served on the Spring Fiesta Advisory Board and the New Orleans Symphony Board.  She died in New Orleans on January 20, 1966.
