Music Research Guide: Find Books or Scores

This guide will help you find information (including books, CDs, scores, and articles) on music topics.

Other Sources for Books and Scores

o   WorldCat   -- This database combines contents of thousands of library catalogs, allowing you to search millions of records of books and other material.

o   Google BooksSearch the full-text of over 10 million books.  Content availability varies.

o   International Music Score Library Project (IMSLP) - Free archive of music scores in the public domain.

UNO Catalog

Use the UNO Library's online catalog to locate books in the library.  Putting the composer or musician's name in the subject field (last name, first name) will retrieve books that are primarily about that person.  You can also search by keyword to search all of the information in the catalog records, for any reference to person, song, or topic.

You can also use the UNO Library's online catalog to find scores in the Library.  Search by author (composer) and/or title and select "Music Scores Only" from the pull-down menu labeled "Everything" to limit your search to scores.

Electronic books are also included in the catalog.  You can limit your search to e-books by selecting “E-Books Only” from the “Everything” pull-down menu.  To see an e-book from the catalog, just click on the URL in the record to access an electronic version of a book (login required for off-campus access).
