Biographical Note
Born in Gretna, Louisiana, Robert Emmet Kennedy is primarily remembered as the author of several volumes on black folklore and folk music--among them, Black Cameos (1924), Gritny People (1927), and More Mellows (1931). In addition, he was a painter and pianist and on occasion had reviewed books for the New York Times. For most of the last twenty years of his life, Kennedy lived in New York and operated an antique shop. He died in 1941 while visiting New Orleans.
