Remote Checkout: Procedures

Request Items for Check-out to be picked up at Library Services Desk

You may place online holds for books or you may retrieve books directly from the shelf.

If you would like to place an online hold for a book or other item from the UNO Library,

please have your UNO Library login credentials available and follow the steps below. 

Need a journal article? Please request articles using the Library's interlibrary loan service.


1) Search the library catalog for particular item that you want to check out.  link to online catalog

2) Once you have found a book in print that you want to read, click on the "Place Hold" button. button for onshelf hold

3) If you have UNO credentials, you will click on the login and be authenticated using your campus credentials. If you are a special borrowers, you will be asked to put in your ID and Library PIN. login to your UNO library account

4) Library staff will do the following:

  1. retrieve the item(s)
  2. check them out to you
  3. Email you when your material is ready to be picked up from the library Services Desk (first floor lobby). Most items will be ready for pick up in two (2) business days.

Please note:
Non-circulating items will have to be used in the library, with a 3-hour time limit. Your UNO ID will be required to pick up items, which will be bagged and labeled to minimize interaction.
