The UNO Interlibrary Loan Service is available to all UNO faculty, staff, and students. It is intended to support and supplement research and instruction activities at UNO.
UNO faculty, staff, and students can register for an ILLiad account and use interlibrary loan services. Research Park employees, UNO alumni, students of other area universities, and the general public are not eligible to use the Interlibrary Loan Service.
Upon registration, you must supply your full name, UNO ID number, address, telephone number, and UNO email address. All accounts must use a UNO email address. Any accounts with alternative email addresses will not have requests processed until a UNO email address is supplied.
The Interlibrary Loan Service is able to request books, CDs, DVDs, articles, book chapters, and other materials. There is no limit to the number of requests you can place in one day. However, there are some items that cannot be requested:
- Textbooks and items currently on reserve
- Personal entertainment items
- Electronic material available via the UNO Library catalog (including e-books)
Interlibrary loan staff make every effort to handle requests as soon as possible. Most materials take an average of two to three weeks to arrive, and the loan period is determined by the lending library.
All requests for scanned article and book chapters must comply with federal copyright law and we are unable to request or provide scans of entire journal issues or books.
To pick up interlibrary loan materials, you must present your valid UNO ID. All interlibrary loan users except faculty who have a designated proxy, must pick up their interlibrary loan items in person.
If an item is designated as In Library Use Only, it cannot be taken outside of the UNO Library, and can only be used within the Library. Failing to comply with this policy may result in the suspension of your interlibrary loan privileges.
The length of your loan, and the designation of items as In Library Use Only are determined by the lending library. Repeat requests for the same item will be cancelled.
The due dates of interlibrary loan items are determined by the lending library. You are able to renew items by logging-in to your ILLiad prior to the due date. Renewals are not guaranteed.
If materials are not returned by the due date, you will receive email notifications from the Interlibrary Loan Department. Once an item is overdue your library account will be blocked. If an item is not returned within four weeks of the due date, your ILLiad account will be blocked and you will be billed for the replacement cost of the item. The bill will be cancelled upon the return of the item.
While you will not be charged overdue fees or fines, if an item is not returned you will be responsible for any fines or replacement costs imposed by the lending library.
If an item is returned to the library damaged you will be responsible for any fines or replacement costs imposed by the lending library.
