Biographical Note

 

            Zoë Adelia Shallcross Mysing was born on September 14, 1911 in Nashville, Tennessee, and at the age of eight moved to New Orleans with her family.  In New Orleans she attended Henry W. Allen Elementary School and Sophie B. Wright High School.  After graduating from high school, she enrolled at Newcomb College where she received a B.S. in biology in 1933.  From 1934 to 1938 she worked for New Orleans Public Service Inc. as a "lighting girl."  In the latter year she married Iversen Mysing, and from 1939 until 1942 she worked as an interviewer and investigator for the W.P.A.  She subsequently bore four children, Sally, Karl, Anne, and Mary.  After the death of her husband in 1961, she worked as the office manager for Gertrude Gardner Real Estate, Inc. until retiring in 1985.  She died on March 8, 1994.
