Library Laptop,Chrombook, and Hotspot Lending: Program

Please email libref@uno.edu to request an appointment to check out a laptop, Chromebook, or hotspot.

 

Laptops and Chromebooks are available for short term checkout from the Library Services Desk. This equipment is available to currently enrolled students only. Both graduates and undergraduates may check out laptops and Chromebooks.

EQUIPMENT:

  • 35 Chromebooks
  • 27 Laptops
  • 50 Hotspots

SOFTWARE:

Chromebooks:

  • ChromeOS 

Laptops: 

  • Open Office including word processing and spreadsheet software 
  • Firefox web browser 

Students are allowed to install software on Library laptops. Please note that the Library uses DeepFreeze software which erases all software and files from the laptop when the device is shutdown or loses power.

Hotspots

  • Android

CHECKOUT PERIODS:

We have extended check out lengths during the COVID-19 pandemic in order to facilitate online learning and limit face-to-face interactions.

  • Chromebooks: Semester
  • Laptops: Semester
  • Hotspots: Month

Renewals are allowed if others aren't waiting to check out the returned equipment.

OVERDUE FINES:

Laptops and Chrombooks

  • $50 per day

Hotspots

  • $10 per day

RESPONSIBILITY FOR EQUIPMENT:

Students are financially responsible for any and all equipment checked out, including the full replacement costs of the Chromebook or laptop, and any of its accessories that are lost, stolen, or damaged.

  • Replacement costs:
    • Chromebook: $250
    • Laptop: $1,100
    • Carrying case: $25
    • External mouse: $10
    • Hotspots: $50
  • There is an additional $15 processing fee for any lost items.
  • Overdue charges will be added to any replacement costs incurred.
