Major Areas of Research Interst

Acquisitions and Collection Development

I am interested in the shifting paradigms of Acquisitions and Collection Development, particularly in patron-driven acquisitions and the many forms that it can take.  One such form is the idea of “crowd-sourcing” Collection Development, which is a step beyond PDA and is an even more inclusive model of Collection Development.

Scholarly Publishing and the Open Access Movement

I am interested in the on-going cycle of academic publishing and how it can be interrupted by the Open Access Movement.  I am particularly interested in the Knowledge Unlatched Pilot Project (www.knowledgeunlatched.org), which seems to be the most sustainable model for funding access to scholarly publishing that I have seen presented so far.

Reference and Instruction

I am interested in the way that students of the Millennial generation learn and gather information and how Librarians can work toward teaching students in the way(s) that they learn most readily.  More specifically, I am interested in experiential learning and the ways that library-jargon can create barriers in teaching and learning.
