DEI at the Earl K Long Library : Accessibility

University Accessibility Statement

The University of New Orleans (UNO) is committed to providing for the needs of enrolled or admitted students who have disabilities under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA).

Library Technology

Furthermore, the Earl K Long Library supports this commitment through space and services intended to accommodate a variety of library users.

We have a variety of study spaces, many including power outlets, soft seating, and tables at appropriate heights for various users in the Stewart Learning Commons on the 1st floor of the library. PCs include a screen reader and ease of access menu. There is a magnifier for screen use. Study rooms on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th floors include power, some white boards are available, but do not include soft seating (with the exception of the UNO Authors’ Reading Room on the 4th floor).

Screen Reader:

Each PC has the JAWS screen reader software. To start the JAWS application press the key combination INSERT+DOWN ARROW. This is the Say All command. While using the Say All command, you can press the LEFT or RIGHT ARROW keys to rewind or fast forward through the text. You can also press PAGE UP or PAGE DOWN to increase or decrease the speech rate.

The JAWS Quick Start Guide is available here. Each installation of JAWS always has one training manual included with it--'FS Reader Getting Started'.

Other Accessibility Features:

Please consult this brief user guide on the Microsoft ease or access settings. If your question remains unanswered, please contact our Services desk on the 1st floor for assistance.

Suggestions Welcome

Dear Library Users,
