Data Management: Sharing your Data through ScholarWorks@UNO

This guide describes library services and resources to support data management at UNO.

ScholarWorks@UNO is an open access repository for sharing and preserving the research and scholarship of UNO students and faculty.  Because it is an open access platform anyone with an Internet connection can access and download the data files, along with the related metadata.  If you do not want your data to be shared openly, you will want to find another place to store your data.

We will work with you to develop an overall structure for the site in ScholarWorks including a framework for how the data will be presented and we will upload the files with appropriate metadata. If you prefer to be trained to upload the data yourself, we can arrange that.

Once the data have been published through ScholarWorks we will assign a DOI (digital object identifier) to the dataset collection as a whole as well as to specific files (or folders, as appropriate).  For complex hierarchical data we can upload zipped or compressed files to preserve the file structure. We recommend grouping data into compressed files of less than 10GB to facilitate downloading.

We also ask that you also provide a README.txt file with your content to more fully document your research and provide crucial information for researchers who want to reuse or cite your data. See a Template for readme file and sample readme document (CMU Libraries).

If you are interested in sharing your research data through ScholarWorks, please email Jeanne Pavy (scholarly communication librarian) and provide a general description of your project and the data you wish to deposit.  We will follow up with you to discuss next steps.
