Federal Documents: Deepwater Horizon Spill


On April 20, 2010, a Deepwater Horizon drilling rig exploded in the Gulf of Mexico, approximately 40 miles off the coast of Louisiana.  The explosion killed 11 men; of the 117 survivors, 17 were injured.  On April 22, After the explosion and subsequent fire, it was discovered that the rig was leaking oil at a rate of about 210,000 gallons a day.  The hole was finally capped three months later on July 15, 2010.
