Responsible for the daily borrowing and lending of library materials between UNO and other local, state, and national libraries in response to requests from library users. Provides circulation, reference, and technical assistance to library users. Shares responsibility to open and close the Library. Assists with collection maintenance. Participates in other Services Department and Library activities and projects as necessary.
Responsible for the daily borrowing and lending of library material using OCLC and document delivery suppliers. Monitors quality of commercial document suppliers, and makes recommendations for changes in suppliers and workflow organization. Takes initiative in learning/recommending software enhancements.
Provides information and assistance to patrons, answers questions, instructs users on using ILL software, and troubleshoots user problems as needed.
Provides training for ILL student workers in software and procedures.
Provides supervision and support of student workers in the absence of the librarian, which may include hiring, payroll and scheduling.
Provides basic technical and research assistance to library users in person, via telephone, and virtually, and makes referrals as appropriate.
Assists at other Library public service points as needed.
Requires working some evenings and weekends.
Other tasks as assigned.
Required: Bachelor’s degree in any field, and at least two years of related library or relevant work experience; ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, in English; detail oriented; basic keyboarding and word processing skills. Flexibility; ability to follow established procedures, analyze problems, determine appropriate solutions, and offer suggestions to enhance efficiency; ability to establish and meet deadlines. Physical ability to lift books and push book trucks. Ability to work productively with diverse groups in an urban academic setting.
Preferred: Previous experience with Interlibrary Loan subsystem of OCLC and online searching; excellent customer service skills; working knowledge of electronic mail and office software systems; experience organizing files and records.
