STUDENT ASSISTANT, LIBRARY TECHNOLOGY
EARL K. LONG LIBRARY, UNIVERSITY OF NEW ORLEANS
SUMMARY: Works under the supervision of the Library Technology Department Staff will be responsible for both maintenance and support for the following: 1.) maintain hardware items such as computers, printers, and related equipment, scanners, laptops, virtual reality equipment. 2.) technical support and assistance related to any software needs by library faculty or staff, university faculty or staff, and students. The position will also provide assistance for other projects in the Earl K. Long Library as assigned. Must be a team worker.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintains the cleanliness of equipment used by library staff, students, and public users of the library, which includes all office spaces, labs, study spaces, and public spaces
- Assists User Services staff with maintaining circulating laptops
- Assists students with equipment and software in the Innovation Lab
- Performs daily restarts of all student and visitor computers in the Learning Commons
- Maintains and monitors paper and toner levels in the Learning Commons
- Inspects, cleans, and maintains computers and large screen LEDs in all group study room spaces
- Provides classroom assistance to the Library Faculty
- Monitors and logs all patron counts of public computing spaces in the library daily
- Provides technical assistance with large and small document scanners
- Assists with receiving and assembling equipment, furniture, and other library-related materials
- Communicates and interacts with patrons to ensure all software needs are being met
- Assists patrons with using Windows 11, university software (WebStar, Canvas, MS Office), and print solutions
- Moves heavy and light equipment and furniture as needed
REQUIREMENTS:
- Be dependable, responsible, on-time, available, and present when scheduled to work.
- Understand and follow the library’s policies and procedures.
- Capable of lifting boxes and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds, pushing and pulling full book trucks, and using handtrucks and flatbed carts.
- Willingness to work on other special projects when needed
