USER SERVICES STUDENT ASSISTANT
EARL K. LONG LIBRARY, UNIVERSITY OF NEW ORLEANS
SUMMARY:
Works under the supervision of the User Services staff. Responsible for serving as a peer role model in following library policies. Performs circulation functions (lending and returning library materials), provides answers to directional and general information questions, and provides information about library services and policies to patrons. Assist users in the Learning Commons with accessing the computers, scanners, and printers. Performs technical functions such as removing print jams and adding paper and toner to printers. Maintain positive interactions with library users.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Present a helpful and positive persona.
- Check in/out library materials.
- Provide patrons with both informational and directional information, and ensure that patron contact information is obtained to follow up on any unanswered questions.
- Assist patrons in searching for book titles and locations in the library catalog.
- Understand the functions of and how to direct patrons to the non-library offices located within the library.
- Direct patrons to library services and spaces.
- Assist users in locating materials on the library's book, journal, and federal and state documents shelves.
- Monitor and report issues (including cleanliness, disruptive behavior, and damage to furniture) on all library floors.
- Assist students with reserving group study rooms.
- Assist students with accessing the GoPrint, campus printing system.
- Assist visitors with accessing the LIBRARY-VISITOR wifi network.
- Assist in closing procedures, if applicable.
- Monitor and replace paper and toner in the Learning Commons printers as needed.
- Provide technical assistance with large and small document scanners.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Be dependable, responsible, on-time, available, and present when scheduled to work.
- Understand and follow the library’s policies and procedures.
- Ability to learn and correctly order materials in the Library of Congress, SUDOC, and LADOC classification systems.
- Willingness to work on other special projects when needed
