Innovation/Beyond Reality Student Assistant Position Description

STUDENT ASSISTANT, LIBRARY INNOVATION/BEYOND REALITY LAB

UNIVERSITY OF NEW ORLEANS, EARL K LONG LIBRARY

SUMMARY: Works under the supervision of the Library Training and Support Specialist to maintain equipment in the Innovation/Beyond Reality Lab including computers, sewing machines, desktop milling machine, and virtual reality equipment. Develop a working knowledge of Blender, Unity, and select Adobe software. Be able to demonstrate how to use equipment and software in formal and informal workshops and camps. Must be a team worker and enjoy working with people.

Job responsibilities:

  • Assist users to properly use equipment and software
  • Run and oversee production jobs on 3D printers
  • Light maintenance of equipment
  • Assist users with understanding library policies regarding use and booking of equipment
  • Assist and potentially lead Innovation/Beyond Reality Lab events and classes
  • Assist with promoting activities for the Innovation/Beyond Reality Lab.
  • Greet users and visitors entering the Innovation Lab
  • Track usage of the space and equipment
  • Sweep and wipe down work spaces

Education Requirements: In order to apply for this position, you must be a current University of New Orleans student. Undergraduates must be enrolled in at least six credits per semester (three for summer).

Preferred but not required: Experience with CAD/3D modelling software and Adobe digital media editing programs. Experience with 3D printers, CNC mills, and sewing machines.
