INTERLIBRARY LOAN AND STACKS MAINTENANCE STUDENT WORKER
EARL K. LONG LIBRARY, UNIVERSITY OF NEW ORLEANS
SUMMARY:
Works under the supervision of the Interlibrary Loan & Stacks Maintenance Department. Will assist staff in maintainin the order of the library's physical collections by shelving, shifting, straightening, and shelf reading. Will also assist staff in processing interlibrary loan requests to supply to other libraries and the University of New Orleans patrons.
DUTIES:
- Finds and retrieves materials from shelves using the Library of Congress Classification System
- Uses scanner and microfilm reader to scan articles for interlibrary loan requests
- Retrieves and sorts incoming departmental mail from the campus mailroom
- Picks up, sorts, and arranges materials to be shelved
- Assists in the maintenance of the collection by shifting, weeding, and straightening library materials
- Shelf reads to maintain call number order
- Records book and periodical usage statistics
- Assists patrons in the library as needed
REQUIREMENTS:
- Be dependable, responsible, on-time, available, and present when scheduled to work.
- Understand and follow the library’s policies and procedures.
- Ability to perform detailed and accurate work
- Ability to learn and correctly sort and shelve materials in the Library of Congress, SUDOC, and LADOC classification systems.
- Capable of lifting boxes of books and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds, pushing and pulling full book trucks, and bending and reaching to place books and journals on shelves ranging from 1 to 90 inches high.
- Willingness to work on other special projects when needed
Education requirements: To apply for this position, you must be a current University of New Orleans student. Undergraduates must be enrolled in at least six credits per semester (three for summer).
